Freshmen Parent College Workshop…a Must Attend Event!

PLACE: SGHS Music Room

Who should attend this important once-a-year meeting?

All freshmen parents who want to:
• become more knowledgeable about the high school educational system.
• learn which high school courses contribute to high Grade Point Averages (GPA).
• know what kinds of behaviors at home lead to academic success in high school.
• actively support their child’s educational success.
• find out what kind of grades their child will need to get into UCLA and other great universities.
• meet their child’s Academic Counselor and College Advisor.
• have their questions about the SGHS college preparatory program answered.
• see their child admitted to a 4-year university/college upon graduation from SGHS.

All freshmen are invited to accompany their parents to the workshop. A lot of vitally important information will be shared…information that every parent (both mothers and fathers) will need over the next four years. Plan to be in attendance.

The workshop will be conducted by Mr. Allan Paul Shatkin, SGHS’ 11th & 12th Grade Academic Counselor and College Advisor & Ms. Maria Alvarez, SGHS’ 9th and 10th Grade Academic Counselor. Mr. Shatkin, B.A., M.A., is a knowledgeable and engaging educator with more than 35 years of experience in the educational arena. He has successfully shepherded many hundreds of SGHS graduates into higher education. Ms. Alvarez, B.A., M.A., is a dynamic, bilingual (English/Spanish), hands-on student advisor who monitors carefully the academic progress of every 9th grader. She is also the supervisor of “Success,” the school’s unique academic support program.
