Valiant Athletes of the Year

At the spring sports banquet, junior, Melissa Rios and senior Winston Rose were named, 2010-2011 Valiant Athletes of the Year.

Melissa Rios had an outstanding junior year leading the Lady Valiant soccer team to a Santa Cruz League championship and posting a 16-1-1 record.   Her record setting 38 goals led the Valiants to a CIF #1 ranking for six weeks in a row.

Rios personal honors included, 1st Team All CIF, Santa Cruz League MVP, Valiant team MVP, 1st Team All League and Daily News All Area team selection.

Melissa also participated in track and field, qualifying for the CIF pre-lims in the 100 meter hurdles.

Winston Rose, definitely left is mark this year at St. Gens by participating in the CIF playoffs in three different  sports.

Winston helped lead both, the Valiant football and basketball teams to Santa Fe second place finishes and into the round of 32 for the playoffs.

Winston's personal achievements were, 1st team All Santa Fe League in football and basketball.  He also captured, for the second year in a row, the league title in the 400 meter dash in track & field, which qualified him for the CIF pre-lims.  Rose was the team MVP in both basketball and track & field.

Congratulations to both athletes for their amazing efforts on and off the playing fields.
